A Floral How-To By Zoya Nail Polish

DIY Floral Accent Nail 

Did you absolutely adore this floral mani we posted a few weeks ago? We're going to show you how to get the look, step-by-step! 

What you'll need...

- Zoya Nail Polish in Demi
- Zoya Nail Polish in Megan
- Zoya Nail Polish in Mitzi
- Zoya Nail Polish in Suvi
- Zoya Nail Polish in Purity
- A good dotting tool (or bobby pin)
- A thin brush or toothpick

Step 1

Select which nail(s) you want as your floral accent and paint all other fingers with Zoya Nail Polish in Demi. Use Zoya Nail Polish in Purity as the base for accent nail(s) of choice. Now for the how-to on the accent nail!

 

 

Step 2

When the base of your accent nail is completely dry, use a dotting tool or small brush to create the flower base using Zoya Nail Polish in Megan. You're not going to make the dots completely circular. Instead, make them a little irregular, to get more of a flower shape.

Step 3

When the dots have dried, use a skinny brush or toothpick to make a little "C" shape in the center of each flower with Zoya Nail Polish in Demi. Next, outline two edges of each flower as shown to the left. You only need a little bit per flower!

Step 4

Once the outline of the flower is dry, you'll be ready to make the leaves to the flower. Take your brush (make sure it's clean) and dip it into Zoya Nail Polish in Mitzi. Choose a side of each flower and make two skinny triangles right next to each other to create the leaves - it's easy!

 

Step 5

Finally, once the lighter green has dried, you will put two lines in each little triangle to give the leaves some dimension!

West Hollywood salon owner Hiroko Fujikawa gives a traditional french manicure a makeover, by updating the tip color and adding a simple embellishment. Fujikawa combines Zoya Nail Polish in Kalista and Zoya Nail Polish in Purity with gold square studs for a bold, graphic design with a touch of edge.

Pro Tip: "While the top coat is still wet, use a pair of tweezers to pick up a stud and place it on the top right corner of the nail. (The top coat acts as glue so it will stick.) Repeat with three more studs, placing them so they form a square."

For something a little brighter, try your hand at a sunflower mani. DIY Wrap Bracelet

Nail bloggers are a crafty bunch. We kind of have to be to patiently sit down and craft nail designs, posts and pictures for the blog's content. You'll see baking on Rebecca Likes Nails, custom nail sets at The Nailasaurus, and nail polish jewelry at Nails by Kayla Shevonne. Is it any surprise that I too get the craft itch from time to time?

The insufferable need to craft certainly isn't helped by the fact that one of my best friends is an Assistant Editor at Beading Daily. You can read some of her posts for their blog here. I finally roped her into showing me a technique for a beautiful wrap bracelet I had spotted the ladies of her office making (here). I'm tickled with the result!

Chloe helped me choose the right size beads from a well-stocked local bead store. We stumbled into a truck show, where this colorful strand of turquoise and stone colored beads awaited me. I chose to pair the beads with a burnt red leather and matching thread.

The bracelet took hardly any time at all to make, but the final result speaks volumes. I can't wait to start wearing it with the fall colors that will inevitabely adorn my fingers, but for tonight, I chose to keep it simple with Re-Fresh Mint (China Glaze).
