6) Tell me 3 fun facts that people wouldn't ordinarily know about you. (Hobbies, interests, history, etc)
This is starting to feel like Vanity Fair's Proust Questionnaire, where all my secret fears and dashed hopes are supposed to be revealed. Oh, right, you said 'fun' not secret, sorry! Well one of those three things isn't "make awful jokes" because that is pretty clear once you talk to me, and neither is "being concise...."
Let's see... I'm a trained biologist (molecular bio/ecology background) but I've also spent a lot of time over the years doing art - watercolors & pencil/charcoal work mostly. So I've always had an artsy outlet side.... which apparently now means glitter & pigments (evvvverywhere) and a fascination with making paints from raw mineral components (raw pigment powders).
I have a very large music hobby (just listening, unless two years of flute and a handful of months on the drums counts) but I am sadly not musical personally in any way. I keep making friends who are really musical - opera singers, music school graduates, competent guitar players, championship karaoke singers. Someone out there is trying to tell me something (probably 'learn how to sight-read', slacker).
And the third thing... I rescued a native, wild alligator lizard in September '11 who had been injured somehow (a bird or another reptile), and she has one eye and is totally tame and a very chill and relaxed little animal. Reptiles make the best pets (especially perched on your shoulder, sleeping for hours). Also, some future polish colors may end up being weird greenish brown striped/mottled shades....
Funny thing, I'm actually a musical person, so it's a bit apropos that she and I are friends. Ok, let's get to the review!
Color: Whiteish base with color shift from purple, red, green, to blue. Glitters include black, purple, and gunmetal in various sizes.
Finish: Glitter Shimmer – glitter in a base that shimmers in the light from the use of color shifting pigments.
Bottle / Brush: Round mini bottle – wand and brush are just long enough to reach the bottom of the bottle. However, the fact that it’s a mini makes application a little tricky. The consistency of Rez, however, didn't require too much skill in application as it didn't pool on my cuticles at all.
Check out the shift! This is the best pic I could get of the gorgeous blue shift in this bad boy. |
Opacity: Medium – achieves opacity at three to four coats. I only used 2 coats, but I think three would be ideal for a fuller coverage.
Overall Ease of Application: Easy – applies well without pooling, dragging, streaking, or balding. Spreads evenly and smoothly.
Stampability: N/A
Dry Time: Long – dry to the touch with smudging in over 15 minutes.
Overall Thoughts: Sadly, I did this mani about 30 minutes before I had to rush out to see my trainer (for the first time in two months... Man am I sore now. I can't imagine what it will be like tomorrow!!!). Because Rez takes quite a while to dry, I smudged it to hell and back when I was lacing up my sneakers. Womp womp! Otherwise, Rez was a pleasure to work with! The color shift was pretty shy for the camera, but it was gorgeous in person and translated well onto the nail. My phone caught the shifts best in full sun, but my photos are a bit blurry. The glitters spread well without too much manipulation. The tiny glitters are a little difficult to remove once you change your polish, but that's nothing new with small glitters. Overall, this polish is fun! It has fantastic color shift and a unique color combination. You *must* click to enlarge this shot. It's a rainbow on my fingers! Gorgeous! |
Here are shots from my "refrigerator light box." I get better color shift pictures using the fridge. It's weird! As Andrea herself posits, "why is the best light in the house hidden in the fridge - so my coldcuts look great?" Hah! She makes a good point.
Look who joined me in the fridge. |
Here's Rez in full sun from my phone.
You can purchase Rez from Indigo Bananas her Etsy store. Also, you can follow Andrea on Facebook and her blog for news and updates.
Do you have any Indigo Bananas polishes? Which is your favorite?
