Nailing an Interview with Zoya

Burlington County Times Interview with Zoya Reyzis

Columnist and blogger, Judy Rusk shares with the Burlington County Times her experience speaking Zoya Nail Polish Founder, Zoya Reyzis. During the interview, Zoya explained that she doesn't view herself as a celebrity like most of the people in the beauty world do, and that there is no artist without an audience, which is exactly what she sees in herself.

Rusk looked back at the interview to some of her favorite quotes from Zoya Reyzis

“Be free. Fingernail polish doesn’t have to match your toes.”
“Polish can show what’s going on in our lives. People see our hands as much as they see our face."
Nail polish reflects economical situations.”
And my personal favorite quote from Reyzis? She said this as she talked about respecting the consumer, and being only as important as the people who support you:
 “Don’t assume people are stupid.”

Zoya for Rolando Santana - Princess Polish

 Inspiration with Zoya Reyzis

What's more fun than an event with manis, cupcakes and bubbly? We can think of one thing - if the founder of Zoya Nail Polish, Zoya Reyzis was there! Zoya recently visited New York City for an event with fashion designer, Rolando Santana to display the "Alegre" collection that was custom made by Zoya Nail Polish for New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2014. Beauty Blogger, Princess Polish was one of the lucky guests to attend the event and was inspired by what Zoya shared. Want to learn a few fun facts about Zoya Reyzis? Princess Polish has the scoop!

"Zoya is a classically trained pianist who considers dead composers such as Bach and Chopin (her current favorites, which change constantly) to be amongst her best friends and confidantes. She didn't care that the government took her passport from her when she left, but that they took her diploma from the Moscow Conservatory, which she had studied and trained tirelessly to earn." - Princess Polish"
She recognized that most nail technicians aren't just of one profession. Rather, they are friends, confidantes, and psychiatrists. "Oh, the things women would tell me," Zoya said with a slight laugh. "One woman told me she was having an affair with a friend's husband. She was one of my clients, too, and I was always afraid one day, I might slip!" - Princess Polish

"We always look at the balance of the collection from a commercial point of view. We learned about Zoya and I thought it was a great outlet for us. Not just to use color on the clothes but to accessorize. Women love nail polish. It was a great way to interpret the main colors of the collection.” -Rolando Santana

"Zoya looked beautiful and glowing so we couldn’t resist asking, just how does Zoya pamper herself? She says her secret is none other than… yoga. “I am a firm believer of Yoga. I study Yoga philosophy and I do yoga poses. I am fascinated by the idea and concept of relaxation and I can talk a lot about. People think that Yoga is the art of living. Whatever is beautiful is called art.” - Zoya Reyzis

Stranded NYC also talks a bit about the collaboration between Rolando Santana and Zoya Nail Polish and the origin of the idea, along with the inspiration behind Rolando's Spring/Summer 2014 collection.

Zoya Nail Polish Founder named Natural Health Hero!

Zoya Reyzis (Zoya Nail Polish* founder) named a Natural Health Hero.

- Excerpt from...
How Zoya Reyzis Brought Natural Beauty to Women in Brilliant Color
In 1984, Zoya and Michael Reyzis were expecting a baby. This created a bit of a concern for Zoya who was working as an aesthetician. That’s because the harsh chemicals used in nail polishes, removers and other common cosmetics could cause birth defects.

Zoya realized that this wasn’t only a problem for her – but for the many women who were pregnant and still wanted attractive, colorful nails. She questioned why nail polishes had to be made with these chemicals.

Those chemicals include toluene, dibutyl phthalate, and formaldehyde – which are sometimes referred to as “the toxic trio.”  The FDA has stated that toluene may cause birth defects and development issues in children. Studies of dibutyl phthalate or DBP has also been linked to birth defects in animals, and formaldehyde is considered a carcinogen.
Nail polish and removers can also contain methyl methacrylate and acetonitrile, a chemical that breaks down into potentially poisonous cyanide if ingested in the human body.

It’s no wonder those things were such a major concern for an expectant mother who worked around these chemicals all day long.
Fortunately, Zoya had someone quite knowledgeable at her disposal. Michael Reyzis just happens to be a brilliant chemist. So Zoya asked her husband to start creating nail polishes that were safer to use.

It turned out that Michael had a talent for developing these products. Working in a lab built in the basement of their home, Michael started bringing Zoya’s ideas to life. Together the couple formed a dream-team developing a host of cosmetics using less dangerous ingredients and more natural alternatives.
