Hot pink!

So, I know it's the middle of winter and everyone is doing holiday colors, but I was in the mood to show you guys a gorgeous hot pink.  Let's take a look at my first Limited Edition Lynnderella that I purchased myself instead of receiving it as a gift: Don't Drink this Pink.

*I was not financially compensated for this post.  All items in this review were purchased by me for my own use.  The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.  For more information, please see my Disclosure Policy in the tab above.*

Color: Hot pink glitter jelly with hot pink holographic glitters.
Finish: Glitter Jelly – glitter in a colored jelly base.

Bottle / Brush:  Rectangle bottle – ribbed cap that is a little hard on the hands to open if you have sensitive skin.  The wand is the standard length, but the brush is a little too thin to pick up large / shaped glitter without fishing.  The brush's width is also an issue for spreading.  It doesn't fan out and pretty much requires you to dab polishes that are densely packed with glitter.

Opacity:  Medium – achieves opacity at three coats, but here I've worn one coat over OPI DS Signature which is a bright pink linear holographic.
Glitter Application: Medium – requires the dab method, but glitters are easy to extract and spread evenly.

Consistency: Thick – thick or it can be clumpy, but is easily remedied with some polish thinner.
Overall Ease of Application: Medium – applies well with minimal pooling, dragging, streaking, or balding.  Spreads well with the dab method.

Stampability: Not designed for stamping.
Dry Time: Quick – dry to the touch without smudging in under 3 minutes.

Overall Thoughts: Holy crap you guys.  This polish is just so INSANELY packed full of hot pink glitters that it just gobbed on super easily, but it's definitely one of those polishes that requires the dab method.  I was able to get the larger glitters out easily despite the brush being thin.  I did leave it upside down for a while before applying.  It's a perfect pairing with DS Signature, too.  The base color and the color of the glitters are exactly the same shade of vibrant pink.  The only thing that makes me sad about this mani is the fact that you can't really see the in your face holo of Signature.  This polish is a MASSIVE topcoat eater, so make sure you either use a generous coat of Gelous, Glitter Food, or Glitter Tamer before putting on your topcoat.

Sadly, this LE has been discontinued, but you may occasionally find one on a blog sale.  If you do, you need to snap it up as quickly as possible.  It's just.  that.  good.  Seriously.  I purchased my OPI DS Signature on a dusty hunt from a local salon that was a treasure trove of amazing old polishes.  You can purchase Lynnderellas at their store here.  Follow their fan-run FacebookTwitter, and IG pages.

Polish Bar Holiday Collection

I've been meaning to get this post up for a while because, well, this amazing line is coming out TOMORROW.  I wanted to pimp the hell out of it, but good god, life has decided that I had other things to deal with lately.  And it's a shame, too, because these polishes are just gorgeous.  Let's take a look at three of the Polish Bar's Holiday polishes that come out tomorrow at 3 pm pst here.  Tonight, we have City of Lights, Chocolat, and Jingle Stars!  Get prepared for some serious picture spam!

*I was not financially compensated for this post. I received samples of the Polish Bar's Winter Collection for review purposes.  All other polishes in this review were purchased by me for my own use.  The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.  For more information, please see my Disclosure Policy in the tab above.*

City of Lights

Color: Dark teal.

Finish: Holographic – pigment gives polish a rainbow in the sunshine.
Bottle / Brush: Round mini bottle – wand and brush are just long enough to reach the bottom of the bottle.  However, the fact that it’s a mini makes application a little tricky.  Requires a steady hand to apply evenly without pooling.

Opacity: Medium – achieves opacity at three coats.
Glitter Application: N/A

Consistency: Fluid – thin but flows easily from the brush but can flood the cuticles if you are too heavy handed.
Overall Ease of Application: Medium – applies well with minimal pooling, dragging, streaking, or balding.  Spreads well without much manipulation.

Stampability: Not tested for stamping.
Dry Time: Long – dry to the touch with minimal smudging in over 8 minutes.Overall Thoughts:  While the mini bottles are a little tricky to maneuver, this polish was a lot easier to apply than most polishes that come in minis.  It's such a gorgeous dark teal that it almost looks black in low lighting, but once you get it in the sun?  It's this just stunning deep teal.  I don't have anything like it in my collection at all.  Application was fairly easy, but I did have to watch out for flooding my cuticles with the tiny brush.  I could've probably gotten away with using 2 coats, but I used three for the photos.  I wanted to make sure you guys could see the richness of this polish.  Also, I wanted to show you just how shiny the Polish Bar's polishes really are by leaving the pinkie finger free of topcoat, which is why it got a long dry time.  City of Lights and Chocolat are seriously the glossiest holos I own.  They're simply stunning!

Chocolat

Color: Dark chocolate brown.

Opacity: Medium – achieves opacity at three to four coats.

Dry Time: Long – dry to the touch with minimal smudging in over 8 minutes.Overall Thoughts:  Application for Chocolat is much the same as for City of Lights, but this time I didn't use topcoat on any of my nails.  See how glossy they are?!  This is all with just the polish itself!  If you're not doing anything for a while, I really suggest wearing this beauty without a topcoat.  If you're in a hurry, though, it does take quite a bit of time to dry, so you'll definitely want to use a quick dry topcoat.  Chocolat isn't as holographic as City of Lights, but it's still very pretty.  Plus, it's darker than any of the other brown holographics that I own.

Jingle Stars

Color: Clear base with blue, black and white metallic and holographic glitters in bars, hexes, squares, shreds, and, of course, stars.

Finish: Glitter Top Coat – glitter in a clear base to be worn as a top coat.  Here, I've worn it over (from thumb to pinkie): Deborah Lippmann Let's Hear it for the Boy, Barry M Blueberry Ice Cream, OPI Can't Find my Czechbook, Zoya Robyn, and Cult Time Traveler.

Bottle / Brush: Round mini bottle – wand and brush are just long enough to reach the bottom of the bottle.  However, the fact that it’s a mini makes application a little tricky.  Requires a steady hand to apply evenly without pooling.
Opacity: Glitter topcoat – not designed for full opacity.

Glitter Application: Medium – requires the dab method, but glitters are easy to extract and spread evenly.  It's a bit sparse, so these photos are with two coats of Jingle Stars.
Consistency: Fluid – thin but flows easily from the brush but can flood the cuticles if you are too heavy handed.

Overall Ease of Application: Medium – applies well with minimal pooling, dragging, streaking, or balding.  Spreads well without much manipulation.
Stampability: Not designed for stamping.
Dry Time: Medium – dry to the touch with minimal smudging in 3-8 minutes.

Overall Thoughts:  Jingle Stars is a gorgeous glitter topcoat with such a beautiful array of glitters that I couldn't decide what to wear it over.  Obviously, I chose them all and did a skittle mani!  I think my two favorite colors to wear it over are Let's Hear it for the Boy and Time Traveler because they both showcase the glitters to their fullest extent.  The glitter to base ratio is a bit more in favor of base, so if you try to load up the brush with glitter, you will have issues with pooling.  However, it builds up really nicely if you use two coats, which is what I did here.  If you do get a little pooling, cleanup is quite easy, so no worries there!  The stars were a tad more difficult to get out than any of the other glitters, but they're easier to get out if you flip the bottle upside down for a bit before application.  If you purchase the holiday trio, you will receive a baggie of shaped glitters to help with application since the larger glitters tend to sink no matter what kind of suspension base is used.  Here, I've used some snowmen, a bell, and snowflakes to go with my blue wintry theme.

You can purchase the Holiday Collection at the Polish Bar's Etsy store tomorrow, 12/4/2013, at 3 pm pst.  Follow her on Facebook here for news and updates.

Comparison Thursday: Pale Pink Indie Holos

First thing's first.  I'm selling grab bags again!  I've lowered the price to $25, which includes domestic US shipping, PayPal invoice fee, and 7 polishes.  Contents of the grab bag will be 7 polishes consisting of 2 full size drugstore brands, 1 mini (either indie, drugstore, or salon), 2 full size salon brands, and 2 full size indies.  THESE BAGS INCLUDE HTF AND DC INDIES AND EACH BAG WILL HAVE AT LEAST 1 HOLOGRAPHIC!  The DC polishes are ones that came out last year that have been discontinued for a very long time.  Those will be going first, so grab one while you can!  I will be accommodating with color and finishes, but I can't tell you which polishes are available or let you choose the polishes that will go into your bag as that's too time consuming.  Please email me at wishesofablueeyedgirl@gmail.com for inquiries.  Please include your paypal address as well as your favorite/least favorite colors and finishes.  For more information, check out my blog page: http://wishesofablueeyedgirl.blogspot.com/p/blog-sale-or-swap_17.html.

Ok, now that the shameless plug is out of the way, let's get down to the comparisons!  I've chosen Enchanted Polish September 2013, Enchanted Polish J'Adore, and Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer We Saved the World, I Say We Party! (aka Buffy) from the Once More with Feeling Collection.  Let's take a look at how they compare below.

As you can see from the bottle shot, the colors are quite different.  Buffy is a more greyed out pink that leans lilac.  September is a rose, and J'Adore is a super pale and dainty pink.

The rainbow effect is minimal in J'Adore to almost non-existent.  It's relatively strong in Buffy, but this lighting doesn't showcase it very well.  September, however, is the most brightly rainbowed.  Yes, rainbowed is now a real word...

As for application, Buffy was very easy to work with and only required two coats.  There isn't any dragging or balding like with so many other holographics.  You also don't need to use an aqua base.  September comes in second in terms of application.  It was also a two coater, but it was a bit thick in comparison.  Lastly, J'Adore is just so sheer that it required four coats, which means that it took forever to dry.  The consistency also wasn't all that great as it was also a bit thick.

So, there you have it!  You can purchase Enchanted Polishes at her store as well as several e-tailers.  Follow Chelsea at her Facebook and IG for news and updates on releases.  My polishes are available at my store here.  Follow me on Facebook and IG for news and updates on new polishes, releases, sales, and giveaways!

So, now that I've featured one of my own polishes for Comparison Thursday, is this something that you'd like to see more often?  What polishes would you like to see compared from my line?  Let me know in the comments, and I'll see if I have them!  I don't try to intentionally dupe other polishes, so any such duplication is purely coincidental.  Often times, I'll have worked on something for several months before release, and then once it's released another polish comes out just like it.  Either way, though, I'm always glad to show you comparisons, and that includes comparisons using my own polishes!

Hololoooooove!

I'm writing this post in the comfort of my pj's and all bundled up in covers.  Alas, I'm sick.  Again.  I'm not sure why I haven't gotten used to this by now as it is an every day norm for me these days.  Still saving up for my surgery, so working my butt off with all of my jobs.  It never gets old...  Although, I now wish I would've invested in one of these instead of my legal education, lol!  Click the link.  Go on.  I'll wait.  Ok, now that we all feel a little bad for ourselves, let's take a look at one of the manis that made me super happy to see again while going through my old photos.  Yes, I'm still going naked for Naked November and still going a little stir crazy because of it!  Tonight's post is Color Club Cloud Nine with an accent nail of Lynnderella Ghost of a Chance.  The proper review will be on Cloud Nine, and I'll talk a little bit about Ghost of a Chance in the Overall Thoughts section.  Ready?  Ok, get your polarized glasses on, these pics are a bit blinding.

Color: Lilac linear holo that leans pink in some lights and purple in others.

Finish: Holographic – pigment gives polish a rainbow in the sunshine.

Bottle / Brush: Color Club – square bottle is not too hard to hold.  The wand length and brush are average.  Easy application.

Opacity: High – opaque at two coats.

Glitter Application: N/A
Consistency: Medium – applies easily and doesn’t flood the cuticles.

Overall Ease of Application: Hard – applies with some dragging and balding.  Spreads well with manipulation.  Requires quick work to get a smooth result.  Unlike most holos, the Color Club Halo Hues don't need an aqua base to go on smoothly.  They do, however, require quick application and a little extra time to dry between coats to ensure a smooth finish without dragging.

Stampability: Not tested for stamping, but I'm hoping to play around with some holographic stamping soon!
Dry Time: Medium – dry to the touch with minimal smudging in 3-8 minutes.

Overall Thoughts: Look at how gorgeous Cloud Nine is.  I mean, wow.  This is in my old lighting setup with less direct sunlight and more artificial lighting, and it's still blindingly holographic, despite the lackluster lighting setup.  This means that it's still very holographic in most lights, which makes this bad boy suuuuuuper awesome.  Application was relatively easy, too, so that's a huge plus in my book.  So many holos are a pain in the butt to apply, so this was a nice change of pace.  Lynnderella Ghost of a Chance is a glitter topper with a cloudy shimmer base with tiny iridescent glitters, white hexes and squares, yellow, lavender, pastel green, and baby blue hexes, and light pink hearts.  The milky base dulled the holo, but I still really liked the effect it had as an accent nail.  The glitters came out of the bottle very easily and spread nice and evenly on the nail without clumping.  I need to wear this for real sometime, but I'm not sure exactly what color I'd wear as undies.  Overall, I really liked the daintiness of this mani.  As my friend Sara from Born for a Storm would say, it's dainty as f^@$.  I think that sums this mani up nicely.

I purchased my Color Club Halo Hues on Amazon.  You can purchase Lynnderellas at their store here.  Follow their fan-run FacebookTwitter, and IG pages.

Avon Cosmic Collection Swatches & Review

One brand of polish I always forget about because it's not on stores' shelves is Avon. They have some fantastic nail enamels though, and tonight I'm showing you most of their Cosmic line, which features fantastic holographic polishes!

Holographic polishes, for those of you who may not know, are peppered with a fine holographic dust, which causes them to reflect tiny rainbows in light, and especially sunlight.

For that reason, I've taken all of these swatches in the sunlight, so you'll see that discrepancy from my normal photos.

The colors Avon gave me for review came in a gorgeous rainbow, and I thought they'd be perfect as a rainbow gradient across all five nails on one hand. The result is breathtaking!

The transition is subtle on the nails, but I love how perfectly they blended together! I can't decide if my index or middle finger is best. Which is your favorite?

These polishes were all fantastic! Almost all of them only required two coats for perfect opacity! The only one that didn't was Celestial.

Read on for all the swatches and reviews.

The first polish is called, appropriately, Eclipse. This dark navy, almost black holographic color is totally unique! In the bottle it's nothing fancy, but it really comes to life on your nails.

Next is Aurora, a purple-magenta polish. It's not quite a lilac, but also not a jewel color. Somewhere in the middle of those. I used this one, along with Eclipse for my thumb in the gradient.

Starburst is one of my favorites because it's such a rich and vibrant pink. Add the holographic dust glitter to it and it really does burst! It's blended with Aurora on my index finger in the gradient.

My other favorite is Super Nova. In addition to it being flawless,  it makes me want to yell "zetus lapetus" and go crazy over Proto Zoa. Zenon's my jam.

The warm colors of the Cosmic collection continue to be perfect with Saturn, this awesome orange! Why didn't I pull this out for a Halloween look?!

Starlight looks almost gold here, but it's actually almost a green! When I was putting together the colors for the gradient, I couldn't decide where to put this initially, because I kept trying to make it a green, when it's really a sort of green-gold-yellow. I feel like some people will hate this, but I'm a huge fan!

Radiant is another confusing color, but wow it's pretty! It's more of a muted gold, with definite hints of green. And when I say muted, I don't mean that it's any less holographic!

This is Celestial, the one color that I needed to use 3 coats on. It's thinner, but it still applies really well. It's almost like a misty color to me.

Finally, there's Galaxy, which is a rich turquoise blue.

There's one additional color in the collection, called Moonbeam, but I didn't get that for review. You can see Jen the PolishAholic's image of it though from her review post.

I loved these holographic polishes and I love the price they're available at even more! Right now, they're on sale through the Avon website for $3.95 each!

Have you tried holographic polishes before or is this the first you've heard of them?

These products were sent to me by Avon. The reviews are based entirely on my experience with the products and were in no way influenced by anyone.
