Review: 365 Days Of Color

(All products in this post were purchased by me.)

Hello!!

I recently made my first purchase of 365 Days Of Color, an indie brand I've been eyeing for a long time. The stars finally came together and the price was right, so I couldn't resist. Today I have three of their lovelies for you, and I'm going to start with the lemming that sealed the deal for me, Gypsy Skirts. :)

Gypsy Skirts is a peach crelly with yellow hexes, and lilac and mint squares. I think this is perfectly named, as it has a soft, hippie, bohemian feel to it; here is two coats:

365 Days of Color Gypsy Skirts, artificial light

This functions as a neutral base for me, with just enough flirty glitter to make it fun. Application was easy; the formula was fine to work with, no problems at all. :)

The next one I have to show you is Vagabond, a neutral beige creme with gorgeous bright cerulean blue hexes:

365 Days of Color Vagabond, indirect sunlight

365 Days of Color Vagabond, artificial light

Again this is two coats; the formula was wonderful, and everything applied really easily and evenly. What captured my attention with this polish is how bright the blue in the glitter is--it's not just another single-note glitter polish. The contrast between the neutral and those gleaming blue flashes is really captivating, at least to me. :)

Finally I have Sparkly Flip Flops, which I showed you a few days back as a base for some nail art. This is a light cobalt-blue crelly with silver glitter flakes embedded throughout; here it is with two coats:

365 Days of Color Sparkly Flip Flops, artificial light

This is bright, summery, and fun. The glitter doesn't sit on the top as it does with Vagabond, it lurks just below the surface giving a depth of flash and light to the polish. It reminds me a bit of looking into deep water and seeing the shimmer of rocks and shells at the bottom that you just can't quite make out. This formula again was just wonderful, no problems with it at all--application was fantastic. :)

I love all three of these polishes and will definitely shop this brand again in the future. You can find the 365 Days of Color shop by clicking here; full polishes are $8.00, and minis are $4.50. They've just come out with a collection of glitter toppers based on the show How I Met Your Mother, so be sure to take a look at those while you're there. :)

Thanks for looking! Hope you saw something you liked. Hugs, and happy long weekend!
M.

The Great Pumpkin Massacre!!!

Every time I think of this polish's name, all I can think about is Charlie Brown...  But like, evil Charlie Brown.

(Source | Source | Source | all frankensteined together by yours truly)

Yeah, don't you wish your photo splicing skills were as L337 mine.  I'm dying over here...  Beyond ridiculous.  Ahhhhh, must focus!!!  Tonight's polish is anything but ridiculous - Model City Polish The Great Pumpkin Massacre.  TGPM will be available TOMORROW HERE at 12:00 pm cst.  SO BUY IT, guys.  Seriously.  It's fantastically amazing.  Want to see why?  Good:

*I was not financially compensated for this post. Color: Clear base with orange and black hexes that are both metallic and holographic!

Finish: Glitter Top Coat – glitter in a clear base to be worn as a top coat.
Bottle / Brush: Round bottle – the brush and wand are the standard width and length.  Easy to control and manipulate.

Opacity: Glitter topcoat – not designed for full opacity.

Glitter Application: Easy – Spreads evenly without much manipulation.

Consistency: Medium – applies easily and doesn’t flood the cuticles.
Overall Ease of Application: Easy – applies well without pooling, dragging, streaking, or balding.  Spreads evenly and smoothly.  However, if you want a busier look, you'll need to use the dab method.  Otherwise, it'll be sparse, which is also really pretty.

Stampability: Not designed for stamping.
Dry Time: Quick – dry to the touch without smudging in under 3 minutes.

Overall Thoughts:  I have loved every single one of Nina's blends that I have tried.  She truly makes an amazing product, and I hope every single one of you will go and buy her stuff.  TGPM is from her fall trio that will be available tomorrow.  Like the rest, it is scented, but you can request unscented if you'd like.  This one smells like pumpkin bread!  I'm really digging her scents.  They aren't so overpowering and chemically that they make you want to rip your hands off (*cough cough color club winter affair cough cough*).  Instead, it's a delightful scent that you catch only when you have your hands near your nose.  Application for TGPM is great!  It can be worn sparse or dense depending on your mood and will be perfect for Halloween - my personal favorite holiday!  Here, I've worn it over Liquid Lacquer's Stick a Fork in Me, a nude holo with orange flash, and China Glaze Riveting, an orange shimmer.  I think I like it better over the nude, but I bet it would look even better over white, which is how I plan to wear it at Halloween!

And now, let's take a look at the freebie!  If you purchase the entire fall trio, you will receive a 5ml cuticle oil!  You can choose between candy corn scented or unscented.

I love this oil!  In the top photo, you see my poor hands and nails after removing my soak off gels.  Completely ravaged by my acetone (no, I will not stop using it), hey look so dehydrated and sad.  Then, in the middle picture, you can see where I applied the oil oh so sparingly, hah!  Yes, I drenched my hands in oil.  I'm not ashamed...  In the final pic, I took a pic of my phone stop watch to show you exactly how long the oil takes to be absorbed into your skin.  10 mintues is about average for my crazy dry skin.  The oil leaves my cuticles feeling soft and happy while having a killer scent that makes me want to nom my fingers!  (You may need to click on the photo to enlarge it.)

You can purchase Model City Polishes at Nina's Etsy store.  Follow Nina and Model City on Facebook and Instagram for news and updates on her collections.  Don't forget, the restock is tomorrow at 12 pm cst, and if you order the trio, you get the cuticle oil for free!

Incoco Nail Polish Strips Review and 'Swatches'

Wraps and nail strips are absolutely everywhere. I first saw them from Sally Hansen, and now I can't go into a drugstore without seeing them from everyone.

Some are plastic, some feel more papery, and some are thin pieces of film.

What I didn't realize about nail polish strips is that some companies, like Incoco, are actually using real polish to create theirs.

Seriously! Initially opening the package, that's sealed up air-tight, expels a poof of air that carries that distinctive polish smell. Mind. Blown.

When you use real polish to create nail strips, your result is much more legit. I can attest to that after reviewing three sets of strips from Incoco on one mani.

Two of the strips I used were created to cover your full nail (Amped Up and NY Lights). Amped Up comes from their designs collection, and NY Lights comes from the line of colors.

In addition to these full nail sets (each of which contains 32 individual pieces), I was sent a French design set, called Maxed Out Tips. This includes an absurd amount of tips, with double-ended designs. I don't think I'll run out of these if I try.

My experience with these three sets of polish strips was greatly professional. Once cut to the shape of my slender nail plates (I'll never come close to needing the gigantic thumb sizes they include), I peeled off the strip according to the instructions. (Visit their website for a complete How-To.) Apply was easy, and they were much less bumpy than I expected. I guess that's the real polish working in your favor there.

Because there's no dry-time, once you get them on and filed down to match your nail shape, you're done and can be on your way. I rushed my application for a brunch date, but they still came out pretty flawless. I did rip my thumb piece too close, exposing my nail underneath, so I reapplied that, but beyond that, they were quite cooperative.

When using the French tip designs, you are required to place a nail strip of clear over the French tip. This will help prevent peeling, but does make those nails thicker and a little bubbly in my experience. I didn't like the way the clear looked over my natural nail.

I'm also curious how well the strips will maintain their longevity after I've opened the package. The instructions say that once opened, you should use the strips because as they are exposed to air, they become brittle and less flexible. I'm hoping placing them in a sandwich bag will prevent that, but without an airtight seal, that may not hold true. Only time will tell there.

Removing the strips is easy and safe for your nail plate. Damaging the nail plate will hurt it until it grows out. You'll have less protein on your nails, which means less structure and more peeling. The less damage you can do to it, the better. Incoco realizes that, and tells its wearers that removing should be done just like regular nail polish. Use polish remover on a cotton ball or pad and remove just like polish from a bottle. Simple and clean.

Incoco's selection of designs is impressive. They have holiday selections (Jack-o-Lanterns anyone?), and year-round designs, and plenty of solid colors. In addition to the nails, they also offer toe patterns too! (I would personally not try these, because my insanely tiny toes are hard to paint, let alone lay stickers on.)

The full-nail designs are $8.09 each (both for manis and pedis), solid colors are $7.19 (manis and pedis), and French tips (regular and designs) are $8.99.

These products were sent to me by Incoco. The reviews are based entirely on my experience with the products and were in no way influenced by anyone.

Comparison Thursday: White creme with blue/grey/silver glitters

Tonight's Comparison Thursday will focus on white crelly polishes with blue, silver, and grey glitters.  The two polishes I have for you tonight are Pretty & Polished Wherever You Go, I Virgo and Rainbow Honey Spirit of Wonder.

*I was not financially compensated for this post.  All items in this review were purchased by me for my own use.  The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.  For more information, please see my Disclosure Policy in the tab above.*

Wherever You Go, I Virgo

Virgo is a gorgeous white crelly chock full of  sky blue glitters in both matte and holographic.  Application was super easy taking only two coats for full opacity.   I used three coats, though, to ensure there weren't any bald spots that are only captured by the camera.  There wasn't any balding, bubbling, shrinking, or pooling to be had, which makes me happy.   Dry time was quick.  I've mentioned this before, but Virgo is one of my all time favorite polishes.  As a Virgo, I'm stoked to have this bad boy in my collection!

Spirit of Wonder

Spirit of Wonder is a white creme that's denser in pigmentation but a little more sparse in the glitter department.  Plus, it includes darker blues than Virgo.  Like many of the Rainbow Honeys I own, it was quite thick requiring the use of thinner.  Because of the thickness and their old mini bottles, application wasn't as easy.  There was some pooling that needed to be cleaned up after I had finished my mani.  The glitters were also a little more difficult to get out of the bottle, most likely because there aren't as many in the polish as in Virgo.  Dry time was on the long side, also due to the thickness.  Because it's less busy than Virgo, it gives this crisp look that is definitely reminiscent of a snow covered field, which is why I like it.  While I do like Virgo better, Spirit of Wonder is still a fantastically pretty polish.

Zoya PixieDust - To Coat or Not to Coat!

A Zoya PixieDust Comparison by Vanity Rouge

One of the most frequently asked questions about the textured, matte and sparkling Zoya PixieDust formula is, "why shouldn't you use a base and/or top coat?" The answer, is simple. A top and base coat affects how the finish looks once it dries. Vanity Rouge compares what Zoya PixieDust in Stevie looks like WITHOUT a base and top coat, WITH a base coat, and WITH a top coat. So, why do we recommend you steer clear of the base and top coats when using this textured lacquer?

Here's why: The Zoya PixieDust textured formula naturally adheres to the nail bed, because the glitter settles in the lacquer base. It fills any ridges & creates a strong bond between the polish and surface of the nail bed - this is why it is so long lasting! When you use a basecoat in particular, you do not get this settling because you are layering the polish over a smooth surface.

"I used two coats of Stevie in the above photos and the first nail shows no topcoat and no basecoat.  For the topcoat nail I had to use two coats of a thick shiny topcoat (the first one was sucked up a bit by the texture of the PixieDust)." - Vanity Rouge

Review: Jenna Hipp Collection

(All items in this post were purchased by me.)

Hello!

Recently I stumbled upon this collection of minis at Costco--not normally a place I look for polish, but definitely a place I look for bargains. And this was definitely that--the price came out to just a bit over $1 per bottle, so I was very excited to try them out.

I've never heard of Jenna Hipp before, and wondered if I was just ignorant of something great. But after doing a little research, as best I can figure out, Jenna Hipp is a celebrity manicurist who believe in environmentally friendly alternatives, and this is her first attempt at a collection...however, I may be wrong, and if so, please let me know! She has embraced her celebrity manicurist roots by giving the polishes names that celebrate celebrity, fame, wealth, and Hollywood.

Here's the collection as it looks in the bottles. First, After Party and Hollywood Reporter:

Jenna Hipp After Party and Hollywood Reporter

Awards Season, Editor's Pick:

Damage Control, Hashtag, Tweet Me, Freshmaker:

And finally, Room Service, Private Getaway, Look Hot Feel Cool, I can Afford It:

Room Service, Private Getaway, Look Hot Feel Cool, and I Can Afford It

Now let's get down to the nitty gritty--how do they look on the nail, and how are the formulas? In each case I have two coats of polish, except with the glitters, where I've only used one coat.

In the above two pictures, I have the following:

Index finger: Private Getaway--an orange jelly that reminds me of a Mandarin Orange shade. Lovely formula, squishy jelly goodness all the way home. I don't normally favor jellies, but I love this and Room Service. :)

Middle: Room Service--a pinkish-red jelly that looks more red on the finger than it does in the bottle. The formula on this one was also good, and it settled in really nicely for a jelly.

Ring: Look Hot Feel Cool--an aqua shimmer that didn't quite cover in two coats, but probably would have in three. Other than that, it applied well and was pretty on the nail.

Pinkie: I Can Afford It--a fairly typical blurple shimmer with standard blurple qualities; it predominates purples and flashes/shimmers blue. The formula was great.

Thumb:  Editor's pick--a black crelly with gold glitter. I generally tend to be disappointed by polishes like this and am on a never-ending quest to find one that lives up to how it looks in the bottle--this one does. The gold glitter is beautiful, and I couldn't be happier to own this.

So far so good...next hand:

Pinkie: Freshmaker--Tiffany-blue creme. This, and all of the cremes, were absolutely horrible to apply. No matter what I did, they were patchy, and wouldn't self-even at all. No topcoats helped. The pictures show my best attempt to show these polishes--and as you can see, the results were not good.

Ring: Private Getaway--Soft orange sherbert creme. Also had horrendous formula. Ugh.

Middle: Damage Control--Light pink creme. Third strike on the nasty formula.

Index: Tweet Me--a pretty yellow creme. Of the cremes, this had the best formula, but that really is damning with faint praise. At least I was able to get it to be patch-free.

Thumb: Awards Season--a pretty typical gold. Unfortunately, as you can see, it's crazy streaky and shows every flaw in your nail, even with basecoat.

Wow, that second hand didn't go well...Let's see what happens with the glitters...First up, Hollywood Reporter, a silver holographic glitter polish with hexes of various sizes in a clear base:

Jenna Hipp Hollywood Reporter over the jellies and shimers

This applied well, went on evenly, and was pretty. But, truth be told, you've probably seen this polish about twenty times before...the only thing really unique about it is the larger hexes (see on my pinkie). If you don't already have this polish from another line, it's worth having. :)

And to end the Jenna Hipp journey, here is After Party, a pink, slightly holographic glitter with hexes that range from fairly small to large, in a clear base:

Jenna Hipp After Party over the cremes

On the nail, this looks a bit more rose and less bright pink than it looks in the bottle--from my perspective, that's a good thing, since I prefer the softer rose-type pinks. This applied without fuss, and had a good formula. The downside is that this again is a glitter you've probably seen many, many times before.

To sum up, I was expecting to hate the jellies and love the cremes, and the exact opposite occurred. I really adore the two jellies and can't wait to layer them over textured polishes and use them in glitter sammiches. The cremes frustrated me, and I can't see wearing them again--they'll most likely be put aside for nail art purposes only. Such a shame, because I love the colors (well, except the pink, lol). I suppose they might also be good as undies for glitters, if the glitters can hide the patchiness (as they seem to do in the glitter pictures above). The gold is a throw-away in my opinion--I'm hoping I can use it for stamping, because it's too streaky for me to wear as a base polish. And the two glitters are fine if they aren't dupes of something in your collection, which they are for me. The two shimmers, and the black glitter were really nice, and I'm glad to own them.

So overall, what do I think of the collection? I believe this collection is intended for a casual nail polisher, to give them a range of summer colors and a little bling to throw on top. Unfortunately, the collection is extremely uneven in quality, and I think would end up being at disappointment to most people unless they go in expecting to use only half of the collection. For me, there are 4 polishes I expect to use in the future, and the rest I'll only use for nail art or frankening; so if I were just counting the polishes I actually intend to use as polish, that puts the price at about $3 per bottle--for minis. Since I can get China Glaze, Color Club, Misa, and some other brands for $3 per full bottle, this is not a great bargain to me. However, if you don't already have a blurple, a pink glitter, and/or a silver holo glitter, that would raise the value of the collection to a point that it would be worth buying, despite the poor-quality cremes. I haven't been able to find anywhere that you can buy these polishes in full-sized bottles individually; for that matter, I can't find any polishes by Jenna Hipp outside of this Costco collection.

I really do like most of the color choices that were made here, and I'd love to see the colors she'd put together in a fall collection--if only she works on improving the formula of her cremes. Ah, what I could do with some beautiful fall jellies...sigh...:)

Thanks for stopping by, I hope this has been helpful! Big hugs and good wishes for the rest of your week. :)

Witch's Brew

Tonight, I have another Model City Polish from Nina's fall trio to show you!  But first, I have a giveaway to tend to!  Check the facebook page here for the announcement of the winners!  Thanks to everyone for participating and making my birthday that much nicer.

*I was not financially compensated for this post. I received a sample of Witch's Brew for review purposes.  All other polishes in this review were purchased by me for my own use.  The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.  For more information, please see my Disclosure Policy in the tab above.*

Color: Clear base with blue, green, silver, and black micro glitters.

Finish: Glitter Top Coat – glitter in a clear base to be worn as a top coat.

Bottle / Brush: Round bottle – the brush and wand are the standard width and length.  Easy to control and manipulate.

Opacity: Glitter topcoat – not designed for full opacity.  HOWEVER, I do believe that this could achieve full opacity in 3-4 coats.  Granted, it would be a lot harder to remove than having just one layer over undies.

Glitter Application: Medium – requires the dab method, but glitters are easy to extract and spread evenly.

Consistency: Thick – slightly thick, but is easily remedied with some polish thinner.
Overall Ease of Application: Easy – applies well without pooling, dragging, streaking, or balding.  Spreads evenly and smoothly.

Stampability: Not designed for stamping.
Dry Time: Medium – dry to the touch with minimal smudging in 3-8 minutes.

Ignore the errant fuzz if you can...
Overall Thoughts:  Witch's Brew is a fruit punch scented polish that is just simply to die for.  It's also very fitting for any time of year without being pigeonholed to just one season.  Here, I wore it over 2 coats of Barry M Indigo, which is the perfect match for Witch's Brew.  The scent is perfect because it's faint enough to not drive you crazy but also strong enough that you know it's there.  Again, you can purchase all of Model City Polish's fall collection unscented if you'd like.  Application was super easy, despite being a little on the thicker side.  I do wonder if the scented aspect makes the base a little thicker than normal.  The thickness here, however, is not really a problem.  I didn't even add thinner, and it applied easily with the dab method.  It definitely needs the dab method, though, in order to get it even across the nail.  Remember, this trio is available starting this Saturday, 8/31.  All polishes come in scented or unscented, and those who purchase the trio will receive a bottle of Model City's cuticle oil in candy corn or unscented!

You can purchase Model City Polishes at Nina's Etsy store.  Follow Nina and Model City on Facebook and Instagram for news and updates on her collections.
